Danielle: Tad getting ready to rappel down from one of the climbs at the Gallery. Most of the climbers were to the right of us. It was actually pretty crowded there.

Tad: That's me at the top of Sport Climbing Is Neither. I'm clipped into the anchors, and I'm pulling the rope through them in preparation to rappel down. Getting ready to rappel is is something that you have to be careful doing because you actually have to untie from the rope.

The whole process goes something like this:
1) Climb to the top.
2) Clip into the anchors through a carabiner attached to a sling which is attached to your harness. Preferably, do this twice, one into each anchor bolt so that you have two points of protection (in case one breaks or isn't attached correctly).
3) Untie from the rope.
4) Pass the rope through the anchor chains.
5) pull enough rope through so that both ends are on the ground.
6) thread the rope through your rappel device.
7) Double check everything.
8) Double check everything again.
9) Unclip from the anchor. Now you are committed, and if all went well, you're hanging from the rope.
10) Rappel away!
